This Sports Tournament Showcases the Remarkable Athleticism & Zest for Life of Florida's Senior Citizens!

The Senior Games movement originated in Florida with the Golden Age Games in 1974 and subsequently spread across the nation, growing especially popular within the state. In 1992, the first Florida Senior Games State Championships were held in Bradenton, marking the beginning of a tradition that encourages healthy living and competition among seniors. The Florida Senior Games, both local and state events, offer seniors the chance to participate and connect with their peers, with a focus on participation rather than winning. These games are part of an effort to promote fitness and provide affordable multi-sport festivals for seniors. Qualifiers are held each year, leading to the Florida Senior Games, which also serve as a qualifier for the National Senior Games in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2023.

From December 1st to the 10th, seniors can participate in a wide range of events including archery, 3-on-3 basketball and free shooting, solo and team bowling, cycling, footgolf, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, powerlifting, power walk, race walk, racquetball, a 5k road race, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

With the ongoing support of dedicated athletes and the presenting sponsor, Humana, the Florida Senior Games has seen remarkable growth, hosting more than 20 Local Series Qualifiers. These annual events cater to athletes aged 50 and over, promoting fun, camaraderie, fitness, and healthy competition within Florida's rapidly expanding senior community. The essence of the Senior Games lies not in winning, but in the joy of participation!
