Tampa is home to many amazing art exhibits and museums, but we have yet to see an art installation like Crab Devil, which is set to open in Ybor Heights in early 2021. In addition to interactive exhibits and subversive pieces of art and writing, visitors can also enjoy a local onsite brewery!

Crab Devil is “an immersive arts attraction imagined as a family-friendly cabinet of curiosities ripe with kitsch, bizarre history, and fantastical lore showcasing Florida at its most weird and wild” according to the website

Visitors will start by entering the Crab devil bait shop, a roadside shop filled with unique oddities that relate to Tampa’s history and culture.

Next, guests will tour 25 hands-on, experimental shipping containers full of Floridian wonders. All of the shipping containers will be air conditioned, so you need not worry about melting due to the Florida Heat.

At the en, guests are encouraged to explore the attached museum where they can discovers more odd treasures that really capture the Florida essence such as sunshine, sea salt, skunk apes, and slithering pythons.

The main exhibit, “The Peninsularium” is constructed of repurposed shipping containers dating back to the traveling circuses of the early 1900’s.

According to the organizers, Crab Devil is cooler than a museum, smarter than a theme park, and weirder than a carnival!

Best of all, they are looking for unique artists to submit their work for the show. You can apply for your work to be showcased HERE.
