Vietnamese Restaurant Saigon Bay Reaches Over $90,000 In Donations

As a result of weekend protests across the country (and subsequently Tampa and the surrounding areas) in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota, beloved Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Bay was unfortunately destroyed as collateral damage from a fire started at a nearby Champs Sports.

Saigon Bay is family owned and operated, and as such the family asked for financial assistance from the Tampa Bay community via a GoFundMe. In just 4 short days, the GoFundMe has amassed nearly $100,000 from both named and anonymous donors across the country.

While the Saigon Bay family certainly has a stressful road to recovery ahead of them, the support of the community (both in spirit and financially) has certainly kept their spirits up. The owners’ son Ricky had the following to say:

“Me and my family are very grateful for the two groups taking the first steps to helping Saigon Bay recover from this unfortunate situation. Furthermore, we are in awe that the community as a whole all came together to help support my family and Saigon Bay. Whether it be regulars, newcomers, students, organizations, etc., we are just flabbergasted at the amount of love and assistance given to us by you all.”
